The Department of Health sought feedback on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Genomics Health Guiding Principles and associated Guiding Principles Summary Document, which were developed by the Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group on Health Genomics. The six guiding principles centred on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples rights, culturally safe practices, health equity, data sovereignty, informed consent, and the genomics workforce. The submission gave broad support to the Guiding Principles, and highlighted the importance of the next steps, including development of an implementation plan and practical strategies for applying the principles.
