Join the Genomics Education Network Australasia (GENA) December meet-up. Hear about genomics education projects underway in Australasia, find out about new tools and resources supporting genomics education and meet others working in the field.
GENA have education and genomics professionals discussing completed, current and developing projects in genomics education.
GENA welcome member updates in the last few minutes and can offer breakout rooms on zoom if people would like to continue the conversation.

12:05pm – 12:30pm – Interactive Online Genetic Counselling Skills Training: using the RISE2 Genomics Reporting Standards when developing new initiatives
Guided by the Reporting Item Standards for Genomic Education, Alison will present the development of new genetic counselling skills focused short courses. Using data gathered during a genetic counselling skills bootcamp and a six-week cancer genetic counselling microcredential she will share stakeholder engagement outcomes, course evaluation results, student engagement metrics, and insights from teaching staff to demonstrate the ways we were guided by the RISE2 Genomics Reporting Standards.
This will be followed by a short Q&A with the presenter.

Samantha will discuss effective communication of participant information to groups underrepresented in genomics research.

About the speakers
Professor Alison McEwen is a genetic counsellor and educator. Research interests include genetic counsellor education and training and research methods teaching. Alison has held leadership roles with the ASGC and HGSA. She is a member of the HUGO education committee and a Director of the HGSA.
Samantha Croy is the OurDNA Community Engagement Manager. She works with communities to understand how genomics research can be more inclusive of diverse groups. Sam is an applied social researcher with a background in anthropology and sociology of health, medicine and science.
