The Australian Genomics Independent Advisory Board met for the first time on November 1st at the Australian National University (ANU).
The Board is chaired by ANU Vice Chancellor, Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist and scientific and medical research champion Professor Brian Schmidt. These senior leaders, from a range of disciplines, will apply their expertise and linkages to provide direction for Australian Genomics in the context of the broader strategic landscape.
Kathryn North provided an overview of Australian Genomics initiatives and national and international linkages, which generated valuable discussion and the foundations of strategy for engagement with industry, government and the public, including the ethical, legal and social implications of genomics in healthcare. The Board will be asked to “think outside the box” to increase innovation and enterprise for Australian Genomics, and we are proud to have assembled such an expert and esteemed group to guide Australian Genomics into the future.
