A new collaboration between Australian Genomics and Genome Canada will strengthen research ties between the two nations and advance the integration of genomics into healthcare.
A Team Canada Trade Mission to Australia last month signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Australian Genomics, citing shared priorities in Indigenous genomics, healthcare, and the commercialisation and adoption of genomics.
Australian Genomics Managing Director Tiffany Boughtwood said given the historical, cultural and structural similarities between the two nations, Canada was a natural and valued partner for Australia in health genomics.
“We are delighted to formalise this collaboration and look forward to a new era of partnership across these key genomic priorities,” she said.
Genome Canada President and CEO Rob Annan said the MOU would strengthen Canada’s long-standing relationship with Australia’s genomics community and its partners at Australian Genomics.
“Together we are seizing a strategic opportunity to advance shared priorities in genomics, leveraging complementary strengths in AI, Indigenous health and precision health to bolster the wellbeing and prosperity of our countries,” he said.
