Summary
It is the responsibility of the genomic community to preserve and protect Indigenous interests and define the benefit of their work to Indigenous people and their communities. No progress in Indigenous genomics can be made without specific investment in, and commitment to, ensuring and enabling Indigenous peoples’ control and sense of ownership over genomic research and healthcare. Australian Genomics will work with Indigenous partner organisations to develop research strategies and standards to drive the active involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in genomic research, and incorporate Indigenous priorities in health system strategies.
