Summary
This public health program builds on established collaborations to co-develop appropriate genetic and genomic messaging and resources for Indigenous peoples. This program is led through the National Centre for Indigenous Genomics (NCIG), in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Organisations (ACCHOs). Building upon the successful first phase of work that was supported by Australian Genomics, in 2024-25 NCIG and Community partners plan to develop resources that respond to Community priorities:
- Translation of the developed resources into First Nations languages;
- Inclusion of additional communities in the project;
- Establishing more formal and sustainable roles for community partners;
- Expansion of the resources to respond to iteratively identified priorities; and
- Developing guidance for genetic health professionals.
