Every year, the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority consults on its Pricing Framework for the following year, which sets pricing and policy decisions underlying the Activity Based Funding system. This year, the consultation specifically asked, “what evidence is there for increased costs to genetics services?”. Australian Genomics’ submission harmonised with those of partner and collaborating organisations. Among other issues, the submission highlighted the rapidly increasing demand on genetics services as clinical utility is realised, sought clarity on clinical genetics and genetic counselling funding codes and raised issues relating to future funding structures for multidisciplinary clinics.
