The Australian Government Attorney General’s Department conducted a review of the Privacy Act 1988. The proposed changes included updates to the definition of personal information, as well as consent, secondary use purposes, research, and health-related exemptions. Consultation roundtable workshops were held, with Australian Genomics participating in one specifically focussed on health research and health-related exemptions. Australian Genomics’ written submission discussed where the proposed changes could impact the progress of genomic data sharing and research.
